Each alphanumeric character (that’s letters or numbers, such as “a”, “b” or “5”) is stored as 1 byte. So a standard Word Document (without any images, borders, graphs, etc.) that contains 100 characters would use 100 bytes. Or more simply put, your average 500-word essay is about 3,000 bytes – that’s only 3KB!
